Cantos Libres: Tayua
When: Saturday, September 19, 2015. 7:00 pm.
Where: Casa Maíz
Second Floor, 1280 Finch Ave. West, Toronto
The Casa Maíz cultural centre’s Cantos Libres (“Free Songs”) is an initiative that gives us the opportunity to hear the voices of our local Latin American artists. Their voices are an echo of the struggles, victories and hopes of our peoples turned into song. Cantos Libres is held every two months at Casa Maíz. On September 19, Cantos Libros is proud to present the group Tayua.
Tayua is an eclectic Latin folk ensemble based in Toronto that takes audiences on a journey through Latin America. Tayua is part of a new generation of Latin folk music that combines traditional Latin folk music with contemporary music styles. The beautiful and kindred voices of Daniela Garcia and Arianna Rueda combined with instrumentalists Marina López, Michael Murray, Bryden Chernoff and Nico Frangini create a unique blend that will take you on a journey to Central and South America.
Casa Maíz is a space for cultural encounters. Our mission is to support the cultural, sustainable and participatory development of the Latin American community in Toronto and Canada in general. This work is carried out through the arts, research and culture in its broader definition and through the promotion of the creativity, critical approach and innovation of groups and individuals.
We seek to provide spaces for intergenerational and intercultural dialogue, equity and tolerance while establishing connections of understanding and cooperation between people and their institutions and with the Latin American cultural movement.
Casa Maíz seeks to participate actively in Toronto’s artistic life by facilitating cultural exchange with Latin America. Our main commitment is to promote cultural encounters within the Latin American community in Toronto, thereby strengthening our identities while contributing to Canada’s multicultural society.
