About

Martin Boyd, Owner-Operator, Diálogos Intercultural Services

After working as a freelance translator for several years in Mexico City, I founded Diálogos Intercultural Services in Toronto, Canada in 2006. Since then, I have provided Spanish-English translation and proofreading services to over 1,000 clients in Mexico, Canada, the U.S. and Europe, with projects ranging from birth certificates and business contracts to published translations of literary and academic works.

Whatever the project, my focus is always to provide a translation of the highest quality in a timely manner, with attention to the specific needs of each client. As a certified translator with both the Association of Translators and Interpreters of Ontario and the American Translators Association, I am able to provide certified Spanish-English translations valid for submission to official bodies in both Canada and the United States. And my background as a published writer and translator with a B.A. in Literary Studies and Linguistics and an M.A. in Translation Studies has helped me to develop the technical proficiency necessary to produce finely crafted translations in a wide range of genres, with close attention to nuances of style and register, cultural references and intertextual allusions.

My approach to translation is based on a vision of translators as intercultural mediators, whose work is vital for opening up dialogue between cultures. This is why I am strongly committed to supporting the Hispanic community and promoting Hispanic culture in Toronto and to opening up dialogues between the English- and Spanish-speaking worlds in general.
